The ‘Forum of Excellence 4.0’, an initiative of eight Spanish automotive clusters, held its sixth session yesterday, in which the success stories of the companies Stellantis Vigo and Meleghy Automotive, located in Catalonia, were presented.

Juan José Areal, responsible for the Innovation in Processes project at the Stellantis Vigo Center, presented the four main areas of innovation 4.0 in which they work: the virtual factory, agile and flexible, connected and eco-friendly. In addition, he presented a specific case of innovation based on a Bin Picking system implemented in the plant’s welding workshop, which saves time and improves ergonomics in the position.

The success story of Meleghy Automotive Barcelona was also presented in this session. Those in charge were David Rodilla Coronado, Director of Operations BU1, and Xavier Riba, Territorial Director of Catalunya Innovae, who delved into the “Calibers 4.0: Virtual Assistant for QA with Calibres” project. This is an augmented reality initiative that assists operators who are responsible for controlling the dimensional quality of a series of dies (specifically for Seat).

The online session was followed by around 200 professionals from the Spanish automotive industry.

CEAGA and seven other national automotive clusters have come together to launch this project. The objective of this initiative, supported by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism within the framework of the 2021 call for AEIS, is to know the transformation process of different companies associated with the clusters to share knowledge and evaluate the possibility of putting tractor projects that are transversal to the entire industry and to all territories.
